Bonjour from Hanoi

Hello all,
Un message en français plus bas. We are now in Hanoi and have been discovering the city for the last two days. We have been busy getting a cell phone and some adapters so we can keep in touch with other adoptive familes and friends here and abroad. Hanoi is in transition and that makes it so interessting. The mixture of the old and the new creates contrast that are striking. Ladies are carrying incredibly heavy loads at the end of long poles on their shoulders fighting for space on the road against the latest Escalade SUV. Building that are centuries old surrounded by the newest and shining materials of taller newer buildings. Lots of buildings are getting knocked down all the time to be replaced by new shops which will look just like ours in the end. The city is dusty from all this construction added to the pollution of millions of motorbikes. This transformation is happening noisily and fast. Fascinating! Today I post photos from TOKYO not Hanoi. Sorry about the delay is gettiing those ones on. We will continue to keep you posted. Nous sommes à Hanoi. Ici, la temperature est environ 18degrés Celcius et nous n'avons pas eu de pluie encore. Nous aimons retrouver les endroits où nous étions déjà venus. Hier, nous sommes retournés à l'hotel où nous avions séjourné lors de l'adoption d'Annie. Nous y avons dîné et avons apprécié le nouveau décor de la salle à manger. Tout autour, les commerces se sont enrichis et ont modernisé. Mais nous y avons retrouvé avec affection le marché local du coin. Un vaste mélange de senteuurs et de couleurs nous y attendait. Poisson frais, viande grillée, coiffeuse, vendeuses de contenants en plastique et plein de vendeurs de tissus. La facon de magasiner ici demande de repenser comment et ou on trouvera les choses qu'on cherche. Ce qui est pour sur c'est qu'Annie rentre dans tous les magasins qui vendent des trucs électroniques...Elle adore! Nous ajoutons aujourd'hui (enfin!) des photos de TTOKYO.
